Recycling Metals Many metals can be recycled. Aluminium, steel cans, and lead-acid batteries can be melted down and reused. Old car batteries can be made into recycled steel. It takes energy to mine, refine, manufacture, and transport the metal products we use. If we recycle metals then we save energy. Recycling one aluminium can saves the same amount of energy that it takes to run a television for 3 hours.
