Atomic Model Reactants & Products    The reactants are the substances that react together when they are mixed. The products are the new substances that they form. The arrow always points forward to show what happens during the reaction – the change from the reactants to the products.  During the chemical reaction, the atoms in the reactants simply rearrange.
